About Emily Naff Photography
Photographer / Traveler
My love for photography stems from my love for travel and exploration. The experiences that I have had traveling are priceless and have influenced me in ways I am unable to describe. I don't keep a written diary, I use my camera to record my experiences. When traveling, I enjoy taking back roads, exploring the small towns along the way, looking for a true impression of the place visited. I’m inspired by the people I meet and the mark left by a creative individual. I'm inpsired by a sense of history, nostalgia and timelessness. My goal is to capture the essence of the places I visit, and share my impression of that place through my photographs.
Educator
When taking my first photography class at the University of Memphis, I remember sitting and listening to Larry Jasud wax philosophical about photography. I remember thinking to myself, “that must be a really great job.” The thought of teaching photography was very intriquing and stayed with me after I completed my Bachelor's Degree at MTSU. I feel very fortunate to find myself realizing that dream of teaching photography. I currently teach photography at Nashville State Community College and consider myself very lucky to work with talented photographers, educators and creative students who provide a stimulating environment where the quest for excellent photography rules.
In June 2009, I jumped at the opportunity to combines my three passions; photography, traveling and teaching. Since then I have had the opportunity to teach abroad through the Tennessee Consortium of International Studies. Check out our NING website to see work from students who studied in Italy in 2011. I have taught photography in Holland and Italy. In 2012 I will teach photography in Brazil!
